Burntburh: C2 - Itchfield

C2 - Itchfield

Thick dense bracken smothers much of the land here. It teems with ticks, biting insects and irritating plants, and as such is often given a wide berth by locals. Whilst there are useful things to be found under the blanket of vegetation, getting to them is costly when it feels as though everything here is trying to feed off of you.

[At night you can always smell smoke, and have a 50% chance of fog]

Bracken thickets - Seasonal Hazard

The extensive foliage is brimming with bugs waiting to make many tiny meals out of you. Travelling through this location during Spring and Harvest causes you to take d4 VIG loss. Should you set up camp and sleep here this raises to d8 VIG loss.

What can you find here?

  1. Myriad of mushrooms - the undergrowth is often overflowing with mushroom species, especially during Harvest. However for every edible or remedial type there are three more that will ail or even kill you - a specialist is essential if you wish to forage here.

  2. Obsidian shards - known locally as the teeth of the earth, sharp pieces of obsidian seem to sprout from the ground all across this area. Most are the fist sized and shaped like shark teeth, whilst some are foot long fangs.

  3. Brushsore powder - tiny sacs on the brushsore plant will puff out irritating dust when disturbed. It is possible to carefully collect this powder, which will cause immediate and lasting irritation and inflammation to any exposed skin.

  4. Tooth warren - the walls of these narrow holes are lined with numerous teeth, sometimes from hundreds of different creatures. Superstition says these form where curses have been buried, in the hands of miracle workers the teeth can be used to draw out curses, but witches may use them to empower or spread an existing curse.

  5. Snatchmetal - these unusual metal objects resemble very spiky or hooked sea urchins, but are powerful lodestones (magnets), they’re rare, but easily found by knights in armour passing through the area as they leap off the ground at them.

  6. Emerald leeches - the few ponds and small lakes in the area are host to this vibrantly coloured emerald green leech. Cunning folk trained in healing can use these leeches in their cures, alchemists can even create powerful anesthetic from them.
